In the 19 years that we have been married, we have lived in 2 two countries, 6 states and in over 15 different houses. You can learn more about our time in Indonesia here. We ministered in various locations, but the most relevant location to our new adventure was Indonesia where we served as missionaries for about nine years, living off-grid on the island of New Guinea for about 4 of those years. Julie went to college, studied in Argentina and worked at a daycare center.Īfter getting married we went to Bible school in Texas and then went into full-time ministry. Before we married, I (Martin) went to college, worked in various restaurants, factories and as an HVAC/R technician. We both grew up in Northern California and had pretty normal childhoods. We’ll show you how by sharing the skills and tips needed to make the move through our inspirational videos.
If inexperienced people like us can become debt-free and find a peaceful life of freedom and independence in the country, so can you. But, we were willing to give it a shot and couldn’t be happier with our decision. W e’re just regular middle-class folks with very little practical experience in building, gardening, or raising animals. So, we packed up our family and moved to a 7-acre piece of raw land in North Idaho. We knew that if any one of those systems failed we would be stuck and need someone to rescue us. In the city were dependent on someone else to provide us with everything we needed, like electricity, water, and food. When we lived in the city that is exactly what we dreamed of. Maybe you’re like us and want a peaceful life of freedom and independence in the country. We are just normal average middle class conservative folks looking for a change. We aren’t retired Silicon Valley types, or trust fund babies. Our ultimate goal is to develop a self sustaining modern homestead 100% from scratch, debt-free. We moved to seven acres of raw land in Northern Idaho and lived in tents for 6 months while we built our off grid cabin. We are Martin, Julie, Sarah, and Seth Johnson.
